MedailleSPM is the website for the Sport Management Program at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. The program is under the direction of Dr. Richard L. Jacob.

Students in the program take courses in Sport Law, Sport Marketing & Promotions, Sport Economics, and Sport Event Management, among other topics.

Internships are an integral part of the program, and Medaille students have worked in key sport organizations in and around Western New York, including the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bisons, Jamestown Jammers, as well as college athletic departments, private sport organizations, and public parks and recreation departments. The program is one of excellence, training students to succeed in the business of sport.

Internship Poster Presentation

This will be a capstone informational project about the internship student’s field experience. Students will
create a poster presentation of their field experience placement.
This presentation will occur on a night during the last two weeks of the course. All students in internship
courses (SPM 377, 477, and 478) are required to attend and present their posters. A two-hour time slot will be
scheduled for the presentation. This will serve as an opportunity for students to interact and network with one
another regarding their internship placements, experiences, and the possibility of assisting students in lining up
contacts for their next internship or a job after graduation.
The poster will include the following:
1. Poster Presented on a tri-fold, poster presentation board
A. All items should be self-contained on the poster, no free-standing additional items
B. Students must purchase their own tri-fold presentation board (easily purchased at any “office”
store, e.g., Depot, Max, etc.)
2. Student Info – in top right corner, the student is to include:
A. Student picture, a 1×2 or 3×5 head shot of the student
B. The student’s name
C. Course (e.g., SPM 377, 477, 478)
3. Organization information – in the upper left, the student is to include:
A. Facility name
B. Address of facility
C. Supervisor’s name
D. Picture(s) of facility housing the organization (outside and/or inside as appropriate)
E. Corporate logo of the organization
F. Agency website (if applicable)
G. Define the mission, goals, objectives of the agency
H. Department (if appropriate) within the agency in which the student worked
4. Description of the student’s goals:
A. Student’s should identify the 3 goals they set for themselves at the start of the internship
B. Next to each goal the student should rate the extent to which they believe they achieved this
goal
1) 10 – met it 100%, 9-90%, 8-80%… 2-20%, 1-10%, 0-not at all
2) It should be written in parentheses like this (8/10) after the goal
5. Description of the student’s role at the facility
A. Any job title given by the organization to the student should be noted
B. A written statement identifying the student’s responsibilities
C. Students should also emphasize accomplishments (e.g., promotions undertaken, tickets sold,
projects, etc.)
6. Other
A. Any other information students feel is appropriate to highlight their experience
B. Any additional visual aid items students feel enhances their project
7. Images, photos, graphs, charts, product samples, promo items, other visual aids, etc.
A. Students should include additional images where appropriate to enhance the presentation
B. Images, etc. should be placed in such a way to enhance the professional appearance of the
poster presentation
8. Text
A. All text should be of a font size equal to/or greater than 16 pt. so that it can be easily read on
the poster
B. Students should vary font size of headings and description as appropriate
C. Students should edit all text, using concise language such that the poster presentation is not
overburdened with unreadable text.
9. Submission
A. Student’s must be present, in corporate or casual business attire, for the 2-hour presentation
evening
B. Physical Poster
1) Due the evening of the presentation, these will NOT be left with faculty, but taken
home by the student after the evening
2) The poster will be graded by faculty the evening of the presentation and using the
digital picture (see 9.C below) emailed to the faculty member(s) 2 days prior to the
presentation
C. Student’s are to take a digital picture of the finished presentation board and email it to the
professor
1) Quality of the photo is important, the professor should be able to easily evaluate the
contents
2) Filename of the photo is to be: JSMITH_377PosterPres, JSMITH_477PosterPres, or
JSMITH_478PosterPres (as applicable to course)
3) File is to be emailed to the professor 2 days prior to the scheduled presentation
session (i.e., students should finish this project at least 2 days before the presentation,
not the evening before)
Creativity and professionalism are key in design and presentation of the poster.
