The Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission, a subsidiary of the Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau, the marketing leader of the Buffalo Niagara hospitality industry, has an opening for a bright, positive, and energetic sports intern for a 4 month internship.
Position: Sports Department Intern
Reports to: Jay Josker, Sport Services Manager
Compensation: Unpaid Position. Reimbursement for parking and work related travel.
Duration: May – August, 2010
Duties:
Intern will have the opportunity to work on, and offer input for a broad range of projects including but not limited to the following:
• Design and write a quarterly e-newsletter
• Researching event history and feasibility for Buffalo
• Assisting with the planning and operation of special events
• Maintain e-mail and volunteer databases
• Assisting in creating bids for new events
• Create marketing and collateral pieces
Job Requirements:
Must be a College junior, senior or graduate student enrolled in a sport management program or related field. Applicants should be well organized and possess strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Must have basic computer knowledge and be competent in Microsoft Office applications. Experience in sport management or related field is beneficial but not required.

Job Description
SUMMARY:
Serve as the primary liaison to all OTC programs to fulfill training, competition and meeting program requirements to user satisfaction through effective communication and interaction with coaches, NGB program leaders, community agencies, Sport Performance and OTC staff. Coordinate changes with all involved parties: Sports facility staff, Sport Performance and Transportation. Maintain accurate records to reflect most current schedules. Assist with all aspects of the department (organization, management and implementation of policy). Coordinate with NGB staff and community organizations to assure that optimum results are gained from use of the training center. Assist the Operations Manager with all program management needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinate training and competition schedules, program rosters, athlete supervision, transportation and special program requirements (meeting rooms, special meal requests, vehicle requests, sport performance testing, etc.) with NGB program coordinator.
2. Develop, implement and assign housing for all upcoming OTC programs. Update resident athletes housing assignments on a year round basis. Prepare room and furniture checklist for all resident athletes and perform dorm room walk through at check out. Participate in bi-weekly housekeeping meetings with the housekeeping staff to discuss procedures on how to better serve our users.
3. Coordinate schedules for all LPOTC resident sports on a monthly basis. Work closely with resident coaches to ascertain schedules in a timely manner for athletic trainer scheduling.
4. Develop and maintain communication with NGB program coordinators/coaches (30 – 60 days prior to program start date) to ensure that all program requirements are met in a timely manner specifically determining the approved number of program participants is correct, or reduced, before the 21 day cut off date to avoid a monetary penalty. Check for accuracy of arrival and coordination of training or competition schedules.
5. Provide work direction to Operations Specialists.
6. Participate in the evaluating effectiveness of the programs and report any program related problems or needs that can be used for future reference.
7. Assist in the coordination of program requests for training specialists, special guests and interns (housing credential, etc.). Coordinate details for VIPs as required or requested.
8. Coordinate all Day-Use and Facility Use programs with NGBs. Determine whether athletes qualify for one of these two categories by status on funded access lists. Distribute updates to Sports Performance, Weight Training Gym and Athlete Support staff. Familiarize NGB coordinators with criteria Day-Use and Facility Use programs.
9. Maintain the accuracy of all program records; this includes program roster updates, sports facility/meeting schedule adjustments, housing changes and transportation. Create IDs for program participants. Schedule OTC complex meeting rooms for programs, USOC divisions and outside users.
10. At the conclusion of all OTC programs, prepare and run end reports on the particular programs. Verify records are accurate with program folder (including biographical records).
11. Offer support and assist the Operations Manager on various projects as needed.
12. Also works with Athlete Services and coordinates the Athlete Services Intern.
Required Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelors Degree in Sport Management, Athletic Administration, Physical Education or related field.
• 2 years of professional experience in a sports organization.
• Experience working with athletes, coaches or volunteers.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize work projects when dealing with a number of different sports at one time.
• Strong interpersonal relations skills, sound judgment, professional demeanor and patience.
• Computer skills required; word processing, Microsoft Office, data base management and email.
• Supervisory experience.

Producer – National Hockey League (New York, NY)

SUMMARY:
The position of Producer will be responsible for supporting nighttime editorial and production of NHL.com and its 30 club sites. It will handle club site updates during games and tentpole NHL events, video trays, special NHL.com projects as well as have the capacity to work independently but also serve as supervisor on some shifts.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The position of Producer is responsible for but not limited to:
- Updating club websites and executing NHL.com projects as assigned.
- Liaison with teams’ web masters at a customer service level to help coordinate placement, timing and accuracy of content following NHL games as well as with special requests based on need.
- Assisting NHL.com production staff in sharing content across the league’s team web properties.
- Occasional project work involving working with web developers to help deliver site and content management system needs communicated by NHL teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate should have strong hockey knowledge and be familiar with web publishing tools and terminology. Basic HTML knowledge is helpful. Ability to work with CSS, JQuery, Java are a nice plus. Must also have general knowledge of sports web trends and a familiarity with Photoshop is desirable.
The role will have the ability to mesh all technical skills, written communication and hockey knowledge while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented professional sports newsroom. The producer will work at night and on weekends within a set, but flexible, schedule that is set every two months. Daytime hours apply during the offseason.
Two to five Years web experience a must.

smatdown 2010 is scheduled for Friday, April 16 from 4:oopm to 6:00pm in the Sullivan Center.
Sport Management Program Director Rich Jacob has released the flyer for the event. The event will feature Tom Donahoe, Veteran NFL Executive and member of the Medaille Board of Trustees, as the Keynote Speaker.
In addition, hip hop group, The Higher Concept, will provide musical entertainment, and food will be served. The event is free for Medaille College students and $3.00 for the public.

If you are interesting in our standing internship with the Bills in the area of Equipment, you need to send Professor Wilson your resume and cover letter asap. The Bills will start interviewing for this internship next week.
It will begin the first week in May with mini-camp and run throughout the summer. In the summer, attendance at training camp (every day) is mandatory, no exceptions. This internship requires a high level of commitment to attendance and of professionalism. But it’s a great experience.

(1) Graphic Design:
Interns assisting in the graphic design department can expect to help in the design of collateral materials such as flyers, brochures and logos. Interns will assist in the innovative marketing of the club. Interns will gain experimental learning in the real and exciting world of entertainment and sports. Must have a background in graphic design; be proficient in Quark Express, Photoshop CS and Illustrator.
(2) Iceworks Skating Facility:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to, assisting with class sign-ups and skate rentals, updating posters and flyers. Interns will be distributing material and brochures regarding figure skating, hockey and/or private lessons at a booth on the Concourse during games. Interns will also be assisting in all aspects of customer service.
(3) Marketing Services:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to, helping with advertising and marketing calendar, program coordination, development creative promotions, event planning, office needs and field projects. Interns will be assisting with the development and distribution of advertising collateral to sponsors, spectators and staff. Responsible for updating the advertising clipping portfolio. Execute marketing pieces through internet, print, television and radio. Interns will be assisting in the innovative marketing of the club. Interns will gain experiential learning in the real and exciting world of entertainment and sports.
(4) Journalism/Media Relations:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to: filing newspaper clippings, researching and maintaining statistics, editing media guides, assisting in preparation for press conferences, maintaining statistics, editing media guides, assisting in preparation for press conferences, maintaining the press box, handing out game credentials, submitting stories and features for website and game publications. This consists of working office hours and most events. This internship will be writing intensive; those applying should have strong writing skills and some knowledge of the New York Islanders. To be considered for this particular internship, please include writing samples with application.
(5) Sponsorship:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to, assisting with crowd control and promotions. Must have clean and professional appearance, due to interaction with high-level corporate clients.
(6) Group Sales:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to, assist in all aspects of customer service and acting as a liaison between sales and ticketing. Interns will be responsible for all aspects of mailings to season subscribers, partial season subscribers, family fun pack fans and general fans, including photocopying, folding, postage and delivery of materials. Interns will be assisting with database management. Interns will be assisting at Islanders games, including delivery of prize packs, zamboni rider procurement, ticket delivery and marketing material distribution. Interns will be assisting the marketing events, including delivery of marketing materials to hockey rinks, team store and distribution outlets.
(7) Community Development:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to assisting with charitable donation requests, fan mail, the NY Islander’s Kids Club among other office duties. Interns will also take part in the New York Islander’s Community Patrol. The Community Patrol visits local Boys and Girls Clubs, youth groups, camps and schools daily. The Community Patrol brings an inflatable slap shot booth and give-a ways. The set up, manning, and break down of the inflates, along with distributing gave-a ways to the children are all duties of a day on the road with the Community Patrol.
(8) Merchandise:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to: assisting the re-merchandising of the merchandise stands at the Nassau Coliseum. This will include setting up new fixtures and sign materials. In addition, interns will be assisting in organizing the merchandise in preparation for the season.
(9) Hockey Operations:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to collecting and distributing mail, sorting fan mail and distributing to players and coaches. Distribute itineraries to team personnel and staff/player families, coordinate travel accommodations for staff and players. Interns will be assisting with updating team lists and helping with training camp for players.
(10) Hockey Academy:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to executing and maintaining the Islanders Hockey Academy Program. Obtaining and registering participants, contact interested parties in the program, follow-up with participants to ensure we have all information necessary and supervise equipment distribution. Intern will be taking photos of each session for website and coordinating with sponsors to acquire gift bags for participation.
(11) Accounting:
General office duties, which include but are not limited to assisting with New York Islanders, Islanders Children’s Foundation, Islanders Iceworks and Bridgeport Sound Tigers. You will be assisting with the recording and reconciling of daily ticket batches, preparing and recording journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations, various P&L and balance sheet account analysis, assist in the maintenance of NYI Kids Club information and fees, counting and organizing game night monies collected and help assist with management reports.
